Florida Lobster Mini-Season Gear Checklist

Florida's lobster mini-season runs for two days in late July (the last consecutive Wednesday and Thursday of July). It draws large crowds and heavy boat traffic. Being prepared is essential for a safe and successful trip.

Licenses & Regulations

  • ☐ Florida saltwater fishing license
  • ☐ Review current FWC mini-season regulations — rules differ from regular season
  • ☐ Mini-season bag limit: 6 per person per day
  • ☐ Minimum carapace size: 3 inches
  • ☐ Know closed areas — some zones closed during mini-season
  • ☐ No traps allowed during mini-season — diving and bully net only

Measuring & Compliance Gear

  • ☐ Lobster gauge — mandatory on the water
  • ☐ Measure every lobster before bagging

Diving & Harvest Gear

  • ☐ Tickle stick

  • ☐ Dive flag (required — strictly enforced during mini-season)

  • ☐ Leave early — popular spots fill fast

After the Dive
